The Hillcrest Police Department is dedicated to serving the needs of the community. We maintain an aggressive, pro-active posture. Our objective is to prevent crime and apprehend offenders instead of responding to crimes after they happen.
The department is led by the Chief of Police. The chief is assisted in the administration of the department by a Lieutenant that serves as Commander of Patrol.
All regular members of the Hillcrest Police Department are certified as law enforcement officers by the Illinois Law Enforcement Training and Standards Board. The Hillcrest Police Department does not utilize specialized divisions, preferring instead that officers perform staggered duties that expose them to all facets of law enforcement and service to the community. On any given day, an officer may be required to perform patrol duties, respond to crimes in progress, mediate civil disputes, investigate traffic accidents, perform traffic enforcement, process detainees, enforce village ordinances, conduct neighborhood watch meetings, perform undercover investigations, process crime scenes, work interstate interdiction or conduct follow-up investigations. Our officers receive continuing in-house and formal training to ensure that they are prepared to handle any situation that arises. All of our officers have certifications in various areas of expertise to better serve the community. Our average officer has over ten years of law enforcement experience.
The regular members of the police department are supported in their duties by an auxiliary police division. These auxiliary police officers work as assistants to the regular members of the department. They receive both classroom and field training from the department in various law enforcement duties and they are qualified to carry firearms. When on duty, these auxiliary officers are conservors of the peace have the same authority within our municipality as the members of the regular police department. They volunteer their time and are not compensated for their services.
The Hillcrest Police Department is dispatched through the Ogle County 911 Center. Patrol and investigative services are supplemented by the Ogle County Sheriff’s Police. Working closely with our neighboring law enforcement agencies, we strive to provide a safe environment for the citizens of our area.
